After such a quiet past few weeks, things are starting to ramp up again. This week's big with over half a dozen shoe-ins and a few more comics to look out for. If this keeps up all month I won't be able to pick up everything the next time I go into the shop. Let's see what all the fuss is about….

The DC Relaunch Titles In My Life

Now that DC has revealed all of their 52 #1s for the September relaunch — and now that I've had a little time to get over some shock and hurt — it's time to look at all the offerings and see what really interests me. Overall, I think I'm more excited for the books about renewed characters than the core group. I am curious about the iconic characters, and you would think this new beginning would be a good time to check them out, but I like continuity. I like the rich history that I'll have to do research on and find out about. I like to do all the things that most people don't care about doing, basically. I realize I'm atypical in that regard, and I can understand the idea for this re[boot, launch]. I'm just not the focus group for it.

And yet…. I currently pick up three DC ongoing books and get minis and the odd single issue here and there to make one or two more each month. So, I regularly get four or five DC Universe titles. I'm going to have to figure it out (we'll all know by the end of this post), but I have a feeling there's more than four or five of these #1s that interest me. So, maybe DC's playing it right (for them). I've been sorta soured on the main characters — the ones most likely to draw in new readers (if not, what's the point in redoing them?) — but I'll probably end up getting at least as many books as I do now of the “other” titles. Win-win for DC.

Maybe it's the five-week month, or maybe it's because half the output of the Big Two are event books, but these last couple weeks have been really thin for me. This week's Previews includes a couple of much-awaited #2s, and a couple of books for the kiddos. Read on and see what they are.

DC's relaunched Batman comics

I don't normally make news posts as this blog is about how comics affect me personally, but sometimes those two coincide. As you probably know by now, DC announced on Tuesday that they will renumber and revamp their superhero comics this September. They've trickled news about what the 52 #1s will be, starting with the announcements on Thursday of the (more or less) Justice League-related books and on Friday of the Green Lantern books. Little of this deeply affects me.

Today's announcements (of Batman #1, Detective Comics #1, Batman and Robin #1 and Batman: The Dark Knight #1), however, do affect me. I'm a big fan of Batman and his “family”, so I've been eager to see their plans.

Weekly Previews for December 29, 2010

December has been a crazy month for me, but things should be getting back on track now. That means I'll actually be posting some reviews and maybe some features, too. And most importantly (at least right now): this should be the last Previews to come after-the-fact (unless you're in a country where comic book day is not Wednesday).
