This is a pretty big week for me, and everything is pretty much a shoe-in for purchase. Interestingly, there are no books out of the first quarter or so of the alphabet. Make of that what you will, everyone else will be reading on to see what's caught my eye this week.

Weekly Previews for January 26, 2011

Another major week in the Previews, this time with the conclusion of “Three” in Fantastic Four. In other endings: the first arc of Scott Snyder's Detective Comics run ends this week; and the end of and end comes with the final issue of Chaos War, ending not only that title but Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente's über-story about Hercules and Amadeus Cho as well. That's going to be a hard spot to fill for me — I'm not sure what comics are out there with such humor and emotion all together. And the sound effects will be sorely missed.

Christmas preparations have caused the delay in this week's Previews, but they're still here, and there are (were) some good comics out this (past) week, including Batman, Inc. and the penultimate issue of “Three” in Fantastic Four.

December has been a busy month (as evidenced by this week's Previews coming much later than usual), and yet another event pushed my trip to the comic shop back a week. Which means that this week's trip will be a huge one for me, as I have six weeks of books to looks through and buy. Weekly Previews for August 18, 2010

Weekly Previews for August 4, 2010

This first Previews post is extra-long, as I happened to start this blog just before I make my monthly trek to the LCS. It's also late for the same reason. So, little talk here, just read on to see what I'll be perusing at the shop.

How I Got Into Comics, Part One

I got into comics because of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. My wife and I lovelovelove watching Buffy and Angel (and Firefly, for that matter — we really like Joss Whedon, OK?), and were, like many, sad to see them end. Except we didn't actually see them end. We didn't start watching either show until they were off the air. That's how we watch every show. We don't get TV reception and really don't want to spring for cable. Everything we see, we see through the magic of DVD.

Except, that's not quite how it started. My wife actually began watching Buffy on TV before we were living together and while she had TV access. She got season 4 for Christmas soon after and watched it (without me!) rather obsessively. Finally, she dared let me into this wonderland, and we were both hooked. We slowly got the rest of the DVDs of Buffy, then started on Angel, and have watched both series several times in their entireties since. They went out well, I think. Angel has the most perfect series finale we could hope for: it is a perfect summation of what the show was about, and it (almost) completely quelled our anger over the show's somewhat abrupt cancellation. We could (mostly) live with the Buffy and Angel worlds being what they were and leave it at that.
