Weekly Previews for January 11, 2012

This is my huge week (in number of comics), and one day (probably just before it's not my huge week anymore, as these things go) I'll switch to getting my comics on the second week of the month instead of the first. Then maybe I'll be up-to-date with all of the books coming out. But, for now, I'll just mention the slew of regulars that're released this week and comment only on the ones about which I have something to say.

(Also, I missed last week's Previews, but there was really very little to speak of. Only three books I was looking at, only one was iffy, and I was very tired. So, no Previews. Last week, that is. This week, plenty.)

Weekly Previews for December 28, 2011

Getting back into the swing of things after Christmas, here's the last Previews of 2011! There are no endings here, but there are a couple of penultimate issues, one of a series and one of a writer's run. We're also going back to the beginnings — or closer to them, anyway — with the second point five issue of The Unwritten. For those and the rest, read on.

Weekly Previews for November 23, 2011

Happy Thanksgiving to all the American readers. This is a somewhat small but important week with the return of Fantastic Four and its 600th issue. Also, if you missed Scott Snyder's run on Detective Comics — or if you loved it, and especially the art — check out its hardcover release this week. Definitely worth your time and money.

Weekly Previews for October 26, 2011

Doing things a little differently this week. Seeing as I'm already quite late with this, I'm only writing up comments on a couple of new books. My regulars (and the ones I don't have much to say about) are just listed below them.

Weekly Previews for September 28, 2011

I'm a little late with the Previews this week, but at least it's still Wednesday. This is the weakest week for DC's New 52, with only one book even worth a look, as far as I'm concerned. But, Marvel's making up for it with several books, including the second issue of Warren Ellis's run on Secret Avengers. See that and more after the jump.

Post-shop Thoughts, November 2010

The beginning of the month means a trip to the comics shop! This month features a bunch of Return of Bruce Wayne-related books, but which ones made the cut? And, with all those Bat-books, what else did I have room to get? Read on to find out the whats and wherefores.

Weekly Previews for October 27, 2010

The last of the “Road Home” books are out this week, along with the newest Time Masters: Vanishing Point. But Bruce Wayne isn't the real highlight this week. The second part of “Three” from Fantastic Four comes out this week, and I'm very excited. That's not all, though. Read on to see those and the rest of what I'll be looking at from this week's releases.

Review: Secret Avengers #5

I'm trying a new format for my reviews. Rather than throwing a batch of comics together, I'll just give one at a time. That way, I don't have to wait to post some reviews just because I'm still working on this one or that one. If I don't have much to say, I'll still put a few together for some quick reviews.

First up in this format is Secret Avengers #5, the epilogue to the first arc of this new series. Coming off the much-improved fourth issue, and with a different art team (just for this issue) and a different kind of story, will I be convinced to stick around for more of what still is a good premise and could still be a good series? Keep reading to find out.

Weekly Previews for September 22, 2010

A short list this week, but even if it had only Fantastic Four, it'd be a big week. Yes, “Three” begins Wednesday, and I'm very excited, especially with Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting both at my local store for a signing. There are a couple of others books that caught my eye this week, though, so keep reading to see them all.

Single-Issue Reviews, September 2010, Part One

On tap for this edition of Single-Issue Reviews: three endings and a book at the end (almost) of the alphabet. What am I talking about? Read on to find out.

Weekly Previews for August 18, 2010

There's plenty to look at this week: a Buffy one-shot leading up to next month's release of the start of the culminating arc of the Season Eight storyline; new issues of Angel and Secret Avengers; a new miniseries by Brian Clevenger of Atomic Robo fame; and a smattering of other books that caught my eye.

Note: The Weekly Previews may contain spoilers from previous issues of the titles mentioned, so don't read on if you haven't read them yet (and want to have actual surprises upon reading said books).

Weekly Previews for August 4, 2010

This first Previews post is extra-long, as I happened to start this blog just before I make my monthly trek to the LCS. It's also late for the same reason. So, little talk here, just read on to see what I'll be perusing at the shop.
