I welled up when I saw this cover by Skottie Young. This was actually released last week (and the image has been available for a while), but I missed it then. This is why I love superheroes: their ability to inspire people to stand up for themselves and others; to refuse to accept bad events as inevitable and unchangeable. (And yeah, there's the obvious standing up against tyrranny and oppression
that's pretty defining for Captain America, but I see more here.) I especially love the “nerdy” boy, wide-eyed, looking at his Captain America book on the ground. This other boy has already been inspired directly by Cap, and now this boy — who's probably delegated comics and superheroes in the realm of pure fantasy and escapism — is inspired by him being a hero and standing up for the little guy.
Such a powerful image.
