Weekly Previews for March 9, 2011

It's a very small week for the Previews. There's only a couple of books to look at. Before we get to those, I'll mention that 5 Ronin #2 is out this week, focusing on Hulk. The first issue looked interesting… but not enough to plunk down three bucks. If someone gave me a copy, I'd probably enjoy it, but I've got many more books that I'd rather spend money on.

Okay, with that out of the way, let's get to this week's pair of books.

Batman Inc. #3

  • Written by Grant Morrison
  • Art by Yanick Paquette & Michael Lacombe
  • Cover by David Finch & Scott Williams
  • Variant Cover by J.H. Williams III

Batman and Catwoman travel to South America to reunite with Gaucho, Argentina's Batman Incorporated representative. But their trip may be cut short when an unexpected adversary sends things spiraling downward!

I enjoyed the first two issues so much that it's been a hard wait while this third issue has been delayed. But, it's finally here, and I'm so excited. This has been tons of fun so far, I just hope it stays that way.

(The cover I've shown is J.H. Williams III's variant cover, which has the benefits of being much nicer than the regular cover and being less outdated, as the regular cover was part of DC's January — when this was originally solicited — “plain white with the character and their symbol on it” covers.)

Status: Buying It.

Sigil #1

  • Written by Mike Carey
  • Penciled by Leonard Kirk
  • Cover by Jelena Kevic-Djurjevic
  • Variant Cover by Ed McGuinness

In the war for forever, time is only an obstacle. Warriors jump from century to century, their battlefields span all of history but have led them to a stalemate. But now a 16 year old girl from present-day South Carolina will turn the tide. The symbol on her chest makes her part of this war, but will she save us or damn all of creation? New York Times best-selling scribe Mike Carey (Age of X, The Unwritten) and Leonard Kirk (New Mutants) begin the next great comic epic.

I've never read a CrossGen comic. I don't have nostalgia (or loathing) for this. I don't really have any preconceptions at all. It looks like an interesting story, and if Mike Carey can channel some of his greatness from The Unwritten, this'll be worth checking out.

Status: Of Interest.

Seriously, that's all I've got this week. I've got to be missing something great, right? Any ideas?
