New comics, new Previews. Only a few this week, but they include Detective Comics and an FF tie-in from Amazing Spider-Man.
Also of note is the last issue of Jack of Fables, #50. I've only gotten the chance to read the first couple trades, but they were pretty good (if you can stand Jack's prickishness, that is) and I'm a big Fables fan, so let's hope he's going out strong.
Now — on to the Previews!
Amazing Spider-Man #657
- Written by Dan Slott
- Pencils by Marcos Martin & Humberto Ramos
- Cover by Marcos Martin
A “THREE” TIE-IN!
Following up on the shocking ending to February’s issue of FANTASTIC FOUR, SPIDER-MAN visits the FF for a very private wake—just for family.
Although I don't really feel like I can afford Amazing Spider-Man as it's two books a month, I think I might have to bite for the next few issues. I'm pretty sure this issue and the next two or three all involve the ol' web-head and the Fantastic Four Three (I mean, the Future Foundation). I already want to pick up ASM and this makes it an added incentive.
Status: In Consideration.
Deadpool Team-Up #883
- Written by Skottie Young
- Penciled by Ramon Perez
- Cover by Skottie Young
The country is in the middle of an economic meltdown and everyone is feeling the burn, especially your favorite Merc with a Mouth. Deadpool realizes that there's no government bailout for super-powered mercenaries and when clients stop paying up, he's forced to do the unthinkable... Look for a job. Luckily, Galactus has a position open in the Herald department. Don’t miss the face-melting final issue of the series that shook the comic book world to it’s very core.
I didn't realize this series was ending. I'm wondering if it's a sales thing. I didn't really see any issues I really wanted more than other books out there, but Herald of Galactus Deadpool deserves a look.
Status: Of Interest.
Detective Comics #875
- Written by Scott Snyder
- Art & Cover by Jock
One bright Tuesday morning, the corpse of a killer whale shows up on the floor of one of Gotham City's foremost banks. The event begins a strange and deadly mystery that will bring Batman face-to-face with the new, terrifying faces of organized crime in Gotham. Be here for part 1 of the brand new 3-part "Hungry City."
I've really been enjoying Scott Snyder's take on Detective Comics. He has some good ideas and he's presenting them well. Also, it's always obvious that Dick Grayson is under the cowl, and that's a big deal with two Batmen around.
Status: Buying It.
Elephantmen: Man and Elephantman #1
- Written by Richard Starkings
- Art by Axel Medellin
- Cover by Boo Cook
Hip Flask awakens one morning to find everything is not as it seems...
A great jump-on issue for new readers — in the style of INVINCIBLE RETURNS #1! Features the first of a triptych of retailer incentive covers by J. SCOTT CAMPBELL!
I've heard many good things about Elephantmen, and if I didn't think I had way too many comics to get this month, I might check this out. I'm pretty sure (especially with a five-week month) I don't have any room for extras, though.
Status: Of Interest.
One more note. Excepting the Elephantmen cover (not to my tastes), all those covers are marvelous. Some of my favorites this year.
Okay, that's it. Let me know if I should've included anything else.
