Previews, like comics, are a day later than usual this week for Thanksgiving. I hope all the Americans reading this had a good holiday, and I hope all the non-Americans can forgive us for pretending the whole world should care about one of our national holidays.
This is a very light week for me, with only one book I know I'm getting (the penultimate issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8) and a couple of others of interest. No DC books, either. The only one I'd really think about is the Batman 80-page Giant, but neither the solicit nor the cover got me interested enough to even consider it. Read on to see what did pique my interest.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8 #39
It’s war, and there will be casualties not soon forgotten as Buffy faces her most fearsome enemy.
Buffy creator Joss Whedon and series artist Georges Jeanty join forces for the most emotional issue to date as they approach the finale of Season Eight.
I guess they didn't want to give anything away, but that is the most generic solicit they could've come up with. That aside, I really like how things have been coming together in this final arc of Season 8. With only two issues left, I'm expecting things to get really hairy here.
Chaos War: God Squad #1
CHAOS KING has decimated the Pantheons of Earth, but the new GOD SQUAD have a last, desperate plan to halt Mikaboshi's march towards oblivion! The Kami of Japan once trapped Chaos King in Yomi - the Japanese Underworld - but even with the God Squad’s help, can his old pantheon put the genie back in the bottle? The gods themselves aren't prepared for what they may find at the gates of Hell! Join the HELLSTORM, SILVER SURFER, SERSI, VENUS and more of Marvels' most daring deities on an epic adventure that's sure to rock the heavens!
Another Chaos War tie-in. Pluses: Marc Sumerak, though I think I know of him only through some good all-ages titles; and Silver Surfer, whom I love more-or-less unconditionally. Minuses: I don't really know anyone else; and I know nothing of import will happen in a one-shot halfway into an event. I guess that makes for a flip-though and see book.
Heroes for Hire #1
In the aftermath of Shadowland, Marvel’s greatest street heroes – Punisher, Moon Knight, Shroud, Elektra, Paladin, Silver Sable, Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, Falcon, Misty Knight and more – leap into one all-new series! Who has brought these dangerous loners into one fighting force? How is this network different from all other teams? Who is their first target, and what mysteries wait for them? Discover the answers and enter the action on Marvel’s mean streets, courtesy of fan-favorite writers Dan Abnett & Andly Lanning (THE THANOS IMPERATIVE, PUNISHER: YEAR ONE) and artist Brad Walker (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY)!
Why would I even consider considering a new series when I have too many to fit into my month as it is? I'm not sure except that I have an interest (reason: unknown) in Moon Knight and Iron Fist, and a nostalgic (at least) interest in Ghost Rider. Also, I've heard very good things about Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning. So, I'll take a look, but realistically won't be able to get this.
