Weekly Previews for October 26, 2011

Doing things a little differently this week. Seeing as I'm already quite late with this, I'm only writing up comments on a couple of new books. My regulars (and the ones I don't have much to say about) are just listed below them.

Power Lunch, Vol. 1

  • Written by J. Torres
  • Art & Cover by Dean Trippe

Joey is a sickly looking kid who’s been raised to believe that he’s allergic to pretty much everything with a hue. His mother has him on a strict diet that avoids a huge list of food--anything that isn’t white is off the table--literally. Why the restrictive diet? Well, it turns out every food gives Joey a different super power! Lunch time just got a whole lot crazier!

This was half of a Free Comic Book Day comic, and it looked really fun. My daughter is really excited about it. She's been waiting since May for its release.

Spaceman #1 (of 9)

  • Written by Brian Azzarello
  • Art by Eduardo Risso
  • Cover by Dave Johnson

Writer BRIAN AZZARELLO and artist EDUARDO RISSO – the Eisner Award-winning creators of 100 BULLETS – return to Vertigo with a new 9-issue miniseries, kicking off with a debut issue priced at just $1.00!

Set in a post-apocalyptic near future, SPACEMAN tells the story of Orson – a hulking, lonely loser who spends his days collecting scrap metal and dreaming of the startrekking life he was promised.

That is, until he finds himself at the center of a celebrity child kidnapping case. Seeing his chance to be a hero, Orson takes matters into his own hands...but will his actions only cause more heartbreak?

This has three things going for it before you even look at the story. One, it's written by Brian Azzarello whose 100 Bullets I've read a little of and enjoyed the writing, and who is currently writing the awesome Wonder Woman. Two, it's only nine issues — not a big investment in money or time. And three, this issue is only $1. So, it's probably worth checking out this issue, anyway.

Status: In Consideration.

And here's the rest:

Secret Avengers #18

  • Written by Warren Ellis
  • Pencils by David Aja
  • Cover by John Cassaday
  • Variant Cover by David Aja

A can of matter the size of a football, mined from a broken universe, would be enough to turn the Earth into a sun. There are people, hidden from the view of the world, who would do that either to hold the planet to ransom -- or just to die knowing they took everyone else with them. And right now there are just three people -- Steve Rogers, The Black Widow and Shang-Chi -- between us and total annihilation, trapped on a space station in the No-Zone...
