Weekly Previews for September 7, 2011

It's the first full week of DC's new 52, but that only accounts for 40% of this huge week in the Previews. I'm certain I won't be able to get all these books, but I'll need to look 'em over first, won't I? Anyway, I'm short on time and there're a million of these things, so Previews this week come in faux haiku. Enjoy.

With youth services librarian Charlotte Murphy at his back, Neal finds himself leading the charge to defend the mega-bestselling fantasy series that makes his life worth living.

Atomic Robo and the Ghost of Station X #1

  • Written by Brian Clevinger
  • Art by Scott Wegener

There are two kinds of people. Those who love Atomic Robo and those who haven't read it yet. What's that? You don't want to start on the sixth volume? Well, good news! Every volume is stand alone. Boom. You can start with this one and know what's going on from page one. Ka-Boom. Then go back and read the other volumes in any order. Thwacka-Boom. Oh, a plot? Okay, fine. Astronauts are stranded in a deteriorating orbit, and it's up to Atomic Robo to save them in a race against the laws of physics!

I love Robo so much
But my others are in trades and
I'm a slave to patterns

Bake Sale (GN)

  • Writing & Art by Sara Varon

Cupcake’s life is pretty good. He’s got his bakery, and his band, and his best friend, Eggplant. His days are full of cooking, socializing, and playing music. But lately, Cupcake has been struggling in the kitchen. He’s sure the solution to all his problems is out there somewhere. But maybe that solution is hiding closer to home.

Sara Varon returns with an ageless tale as dreamy and evocative as her break-out hit graphic novel Robot Dreams. At once deeply metaphorical and hilariously literal, Bake Sale is a story for anyone who’s ever looked for an easy answer to life’s intractable difficulties. It’s also a cookbook: Varon includes seven delicious recipes, from classic cupcakes to sugared flower petals to marzipan.

This looks so cute and
I know my daughter would love it
— She's crazy about food
