It's the start of the month, and that means comics! Specifically, that means I get my month's worth of comics from my comic shop. I picked up mostly pull-list books this month, but there were a few others I considered, and one other I did pick up, so read on to find out what I thought.
First, what I couldn't check out. My shop was out of Dungeons & Dragons #0, and I couldn't find One Month to Live #1, so I couldn't see if they'd be worth it or not. I wasn't looking hard, though, because I probably wasn't going to pick them up anyway.
I did take a look at Phoenix Without Ashes #1, Deadpool: Pulp #1, and Taskmaster #1. Phoenix Without Ashes seemed interesting, but it didn't look like anything that hadn't been done before. I might have given it a shot, but it never really gets to the hook: Mr. Main Character is just about to step into the unknown at the end of the issue. If it had given an indication of what that actually was I might have given it a try (I think it's only a 4-issue mini). As it stands, it didn't have enough of a pull to hook me with one issue. As for the others, Deadpool: Pulp seemed too pulpy and not enough Deadpooly, but Taskmaster looked pretty good. There was quite a bit of humor, which I didn't expect. Unfortunately, I didn't really have room in my budget, and I don't have enough invested in the character to make it a necessity.
The one surprise this month was Kill Shakespeare #1. The story involves all of Shakespeare's characters being real, and at least some of them need to kill him for some reason or another. I've heard good things about it, and it seems like an interesting concept. The series is on #4 now, but I haven't checked it out yet, partly because I hadn't heard about it until a few issues were out and partly because my shop was out last month. They were able to find a copy for me for this month, so we'll see if I like it as much as others have.
That's more-or-less it for this month. I finally got Prince of Power #3. Add to that this month's #4, and I've got a good chunk of Amadeus Cho to read. Hopefully, I'll be getting out a big review of those to go along with the rest of my take this month.
